MAKE EVERY STEP COUNT

Know the basics of a video before you upload it

Inspect a local video before uploading or sharing. Your browser reads the media metadata without sending the file to a server.

Check a delivery requirement

Inspect a video before sending it to a platform that specifies resolution, duration, or file-size limits. Compare the reported values with that platform's requirements. This tool reports the file; it does not transcode or resize it.

Organize local footage

Identify the length and dimensions of clips when planning an edit or reviewing a folder of exports. The browser loads metadata and offers playback so you can confirm you selected the intended file.

Get the best result

Supported containers and codecs vary by browser. Frame rate and codec names are not exposed reliably by this tool.

SEE WHAT TO EXPECT

A practical example

Starting point
A playable 1920 × 1080 local video with a duration of 42.5 seconds.
Expected result
Its native dimensions, duration in seconds, file size, and available media type.

The reported media type comes from browser file information and may be blank or generic. It is not a full codec analysis.

KEEP YOUR WORK MOVING

Troubleshooting and useful checks

The video will not load

A familiar extension can still contain a codec your browser does not support. Try a playable MP4 or WebM file, or check the source in a compatible media player.

Metadata does not appear

Wait for the browser to read the file. Damaged files, unusually structured containers, or unsupported encoding can prevent a usable duration or frame size from being reported.

HELPFUL ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

A little clarity before you get started.

Will this work with every video?

No. A file must use a container and codec your browser can play.

Does this report bitrate, frame rate, and codec details?

No. This tool focuses on duration, dimensions, file size, and the browser-reported media type. Those values should not be treated as a complete technical inspection of the encoded streams.

Is the video uploaded?

No. The browser loads a local object URL for the selected file. The video bytes are not sent to the PHP account server for analysis.

Can I use this to compress or convert the video?

No. The tool inspects and plays supported files. Changing a container, codec, bitrate, or resolution requires a separate video conversion or editing tool.

Why can a video play in another app but fail here?

Desktop players and browsers can support different containers and codecs. A file that works in one player is not guaranteed to be decodable by the browser and operating system you are using.

Do I need an account to use this tool?

No. This tool is free to use without signing in. An account lets you keep a list of favorite tools.

Can I use this on a phone?

Yes, with a current browser. File support, download behavior, and available memory vary by device. For large documents and images, a computer is often more comfortable.
